Grey

This morning I woke up, looked out the window and promptly thought it's time for a hot chocolate and some boots, but not quite a scarf. That would be overkill and I don't really want to exhaust my Autumn clothing repertoire before we are even in September. The hot chocolate was just bliss and the boots are being very warm and snugly I may not take them off until May. I did of course turn them upside down and give them a good shake before putting them on. I once found a dead mouse in a boot, but only after it was too late, if you get my squidgy drift.

The above photo's are of Brighton and the bottom one is the swishy skirt to the obscenely small 1950's dress.

The best bit about Brighton as far as I am concerned is the walking. Our family live about two and a half miles from the centre and we always walk into town. When you live in the country walking is actually quite hard. You can't just fit it in under the title of 'I'm walking to work' or 'I'm just popping out for some milk' or maybe even 'I'm just popping out to post a letter, but really I'm off down to have a sneaky hot chocolate and read some magazines on my OWN.' Oh no all of those things require the car and your bottom getting big.
On the plus side you can do the let's enjoy the wonderful nature walks and come back for a nice roast. You just can't do this everyday. I do miss all that quick nipping about and the people watching, because without it I am reduced to saying to the Miss Selfridge's assistant ( I have a 14 year old niece) comments like 'Who knew the eighties were back?' Yes who indeed, obviously not me in my cagoule (vital wear for Devon), I should have dragged out the skin tight black shiny shorts and the fluorescent puff ball skirt instead. If only I had known. Brighton has clearly missed out.

Am I alone in secretly enjoying the inclement weather? I love autumn so I have no problem with it turning up early. Perfect for snuggly boots and hot chocolate!

I had bare legs today and it was cold. Damn.

Elizabeth, I love Autumn. It is my absolute favourite time of the year. But Ali, bare legs... really? You should have known better. It is after all August!

no no no no no. i will be dragged kicking and screaming into my autumn wear. I had bare legs and sandals today (and the rain ran in at the heels and out at the toes)

I love this post. The quick nipping is precisely what I'm most enjoying about being back in a town, after our 2 year rural retreat.

I do miss the proper long country walks though. My wellies look sad and unloved.

Ahhh we still have September and I remember being in the sea in Lyme Regis last October in blazing sunshine so I am not writing summer off just yet! As you know, I like grey but not as a sky colour. I long to see that big yellow ball again :-/

Ha! I'm drinking hot choc as I read your new post! Autumn does seem to have booted summer well and truly out of the way! Your trip to Brighton looks fun!
